Tuesday, September 13, 2005.

I got up early this morning and took the ride from Houston to Harahan.  Easy as pie - except for the price of gas.  I got in, unloaded the truck, and took a ride to the Lowe's on Vets, which I had heard was open.  It was.

Things are getting back to normal in East Jefferson.  Roads are clear, and there is power in many places.  Some of the traffic lights work, others do not.

I bought a 32 foot ladder at Lowe's and then drove over to Jack and Virginia's and helped him tear out the carpet and padding in his office.  He's lucky he only had one room with carpeting...

Oh, here's the ladder:

I took a tour around the house, taking pictures since I had remembered to bring the digital with me this time.  Here...walk with me...

This is the front of the house.  The tree is torn up, but the house is there.

Poor tree...

The front dormer's cap blew off, but is still dangling.  The same can't be said for the top cap.

The north (left side) dormer is a little more damaged.  A patch of shingles is missing on this side, but fortunately that part didn't leak.

A little different view of the north dormer.  Walking around the side of the house...

The north dormer again.  The glass didn't break, so that's good.  A large patch of shingles is missing.  This is part of what leaked into the upstairs bedroom.

Still walking...

The north side of the garage.  Some shingles missing.  Let's walk through that gate and into my back yard...

Standing in front of the garage, looking into our back yard.  Quite a mess.

Looking into the south east corner of our back yard.  Virginia's swing set is under those branches...

There was a huge tree on the other side of my fence (on the other side of the tree in the foreground) that blew over into the other neighbor's yard.  I had meaning to ask my neighbor if I could trim it.  I guess I don't have to bother now...

Moving slightly north, the fence is pretty bad off. I really liked that fence, and I think it saved me some damage.

Looking south.  The privacy fence between Tony and I is gone.  Tony's house didn't take any damage.  My house shielded his.  That corner of the roof looks pretty good...

Turning towards the house, some damage becomes visible...

Turning...  The roof vent is missing its little hood.  The power vent (at the very peak) is missing its cap too.  I've got buckets under them...

Turning...

Turning and looking at the garage.  The roof will definitely have to be replaced.

Good thing I boarded those windows...

That center section is pretty bad...

Let's go in the front door...  Some wind blow water got inside here.  Smells a little musty.

The dining room ceiling, from the leak upstairs.

The kitchen tiles were wet and stained, so I took them out.

The ceiling in the living room took a small leak.

The ceiling in the master bath took a small leak.  This is right above the roof vent, so I think that's how the water got in here.

The ceiling in the guest bedroom upstairs.  It's not as bad as it looks here, because the colors are a little off.

This is more like what it really looks like.

The water ran down the wall.  This is how the kitchen got wet.

Turning...

Really, that's it.  It's still going to take thousands of dollars to make it right, but at least we have a house.
