From a Texas Teacher:
"Really funny thing happened in our morning staff meeting. Our principal is from Louisiana and warned us that we will have refugee kids in our school by the end of the week. (One thing about TX is that these kids get into school and get free lunches with no paperwork. The Gov will try to take credit, but HISD instituted the policy before he said a word).
The band teacher raised his hand and asked if it was true that all the kids from LA would be in ESL (English as Second Language) classes. It was priceless to see the principal's face before she recovered."

I just spoke with Bob Lindsey again. He informs me that his contacts on the ground have told him that Harahan is sealed off, Harahan PD is active, and the State Police have created bases of operation at the Harahan Jail and Winn Dixie store (which is three blocks from my house). We are well protected in the area. Our houses are fine.

"Just a warning. This is going to be a bit rough, but I think you already know that. There is nothing more crushing than coming back to a home that has been flooded. You will find weird things in weird places and some things you will never find again. We found things like china tea cups on top of a bookcase 8-10 feet tall and no other pieces of the china anywhere in the house.
Everyone had shoveled their houses out and pulled the walls (what was left) and carpet out afterward and there were huge waste piles in everyone's front yard. Someone's kid wanted to know why everyone's house had thrown up on the lawn.
It can get very overwhelming, but it will get better."

"The situation in the BR area is getting desperate as well. All the NO riff-raff are here and stirring up big-time trouble. The mayor wants to "get out of the shelter business" because it is taxing on all the locals and we are not getting any help from the state to resolve the criminal issues. It just sucks for everybody."

I got a kick out of this one...
John Carolan was sitting on his porch in the thick, humid darkness just before midnight Tuesday when three or four young men, one with a knife and another with a machete, stopped in front of his fence and pointed to the generator humming in the front yard, he said.
One said, "We want that generator," he recalled.
"I fired a couple of rounds over their heads with a .357 Magnum," Mr. Carolan recounted Wednesday. "They scattered."
He smiled and added, "You've heard of law west of the Pecos. This is law west of Canal Street."

Spoke with Jack and Virginia. They are still on the ship in Russia. They're going to get off the boat tomorrow and fly in, but that will take 24 hours or so. Andrea still wants her momma. :)

As far as I can determine, my neighborhood did not take water. I have several independent reports. The house we were living in just two years ago was underwater.
The only person I haven't been able to find is Bobby Hodges. If anybody knows Bobby, let me know where he is.
I spoke with Kelly. Jeff got to LaPlace last night and then to Mobile from there. He reports looting and carjacking as far west as LaPlace - which is pretty serious. Of course, the underclass that is doing all of this would shoot you for a nickel before the storm, so this is just business as usual.
